Other MCP clients
Any assistant that can run a local (stdio) MCP server can use CostCrunch.
Updated October 31, 2026
Every MCP client needs the same three things:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Command | uvx |
| Arguments | --from costcrunch cost mcp |
| Environment | COSTCRUNCH_API_KEY=cc_live_... |
The transport is stdio: the client starts the command and talks to it directly.
VS Code
In .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"costcrunch": {
"type": "stdio",
"command": "uvx",
"args": ["--from", "costcrunch", "cost", "mcp"],
"env": { "COSTCRUNCH_API_KEY": "cc_live_..." }
}
}
}
Windsurf and others
Use the mcpServers format from Cursor, in the file your client documents (Windsurf: ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json).
Without uv
Install the package with pip install costcrunch, then use cost as the command and mcp as the only argument.
